Duchesne Cuzán. Havana, 1932.
Orchestral
director who was born in Havana on November 10th, 1932. He achieved
his master degree on the Municipal Conservatoire of Havana, with
José Ardévol, Harold Gramatges and Edgardo Martín.
He started his studies of orchestral direction with the prestigious
Master Enrique González Mantici and finished it with the
also remarkable Igor Markévich.
He conducted
various symphonic concerts in countries like Chile, Argentine, Venezuela,
Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia,
Hungary, China, Corea, Rumanian, Germany and Bulgarian.
In Cuba, he
was the leader of different orchestral groups and conducted Orchestra
of the National Lyric Theater, he also directed the Department of
Music at the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry
during several years.
Along his important
trajectory on the music field in Cuba is remarkable his labor as
professor at Alejandro García Caturla Conservatoire, General
Director of the National Symphonic Orchestra, Chief of the Musical
Department of Symphonic Music from the Management Music at the Ministry
of Culture, also head of the staff of Orchestral Direction at the
Superior Institute of Art (ISA).
His musical
projection is characterized by the extensive approaching of diverse
techniques, introducing avant-garde creations in Cuba and promoting
the most recent Cuban music.
