Julio Blanco Leonard. Habana (1909-1982)
Composer,
actor, dancer and choreographer. Author of a vast musical body of
work with more than 300 titles belonging to the most diverse genres,
70 of them in collaboration with the notable Marcelino Guerra.
He worked for the artistic companies Habanarte-Criollo, Manhattan
Black Melody and Artística Nacional.
He created his own Cuban ensemble having a repertoire of more than
60 pieces from which the majority are boleros, participating with
his romantic trio in the Cuban movie Rumba Televisión. His
compositions were used in such movies as "Yo soy el héroe"
(I`m the Hero)(Cuba), "La realidad de un sueño"
(The reality of a Dream)(USA) Bette Davis in the main role,"El
recuerdo de tus labios" (The Remembrance of your Lips)(USA)
Esther Williams in the main role, "Sube y Baja" (Up and
Down)(Mexico) with actor Mario Moreno (Cantinflas) and Un golpe
de suerte (A Hit of good luck)(Mexico).
His music bloomed all over Europe in the outstanding voices of the
Cuban black vedette Candita Batista and singers Miguelito Valdés
y Antonio Machin.
He was elected in 1949 as President of the General Society of Cuban
Songwriters.
On 1961, was the Cuban representer in UNESCO, keeping his endless
work as composer until his final days.
