López-Gavilán
Havana, Cuba. March 8th, 1974. Violinist. He began to study music
at the "Manuel Saumell" music school with professor Alla
Tavan and when he finished he was selected to continue his studies
at the School annexed to the Tchaikovski Conservatoire in Moscow
where he took classes from the professor Maya Glizarova and then
went to the Reina Sofía de Madrid Conservatoire in Spain
(professor Zakhav Bron) and later on took master classes from the
legendary Yehudi Menuhin. During this time he was invited to take
a course with Abraham Stern in Los Angeles, California and had the
chance to obtain a scholarship at the University of that city where
hes nowadays studying.
His debut with orchestra took place in Cuba with Brindis de Sala
Chamber Orchestra and at the age of 12 he played as a soloist for
the first time with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba. He
has offered concerts with different orchestras in Cuba, Spain, Russia,
Poland, Santo Domingo, Mexico, Venezuela and the United States.
His interpretations have been heard in important scenarios like
the Alice Tully Hall, Lincon Center; Royall Albert Hall, Philharmonic
Hall in Berlin; New Jersey Music Center (with Paquito De Rivera),
and his most recent tour as the personal guest of the Master Claudio
Abbado with the Gustav Malher Youth Orchestra, with
the conduction of Pierre Boulez, during the last summer of the last
millenium.
