Electo Silva Gaínza.
Composer
and Chorus Director. One of the most outstanding defenders of Cuban
essence in this style of musical interpretation.
Director of the famous chorus ''Orfeón Santiago''. He made
his early studies in Haití, where he started at amateur artist,
playing flute in a band, violin in a string quartet and practicing
as singer and director.
He got his Master Degree in Pedagogy in the specialty of Infant Psychology
in Cuba, being in addition French professor in Paris. He is also guest
professor from Superior Institute of Art. Head of the Staff for choral
directors in Cuba and Permanent President of National Festival of
Chorus.
He founded his first chorus ''Cantores Polifónicos'' in 1955,
at ''Esteban Salas'' Conservatoire from Santiago de Cuba. His labor
in music has been remarkable as professor from Oriente University
and Director of University Chorus; underscoring also at National Festivals
of Chorus and Cuban Center of Choral Information, particularly emphasizing
his direction in various children chorus, Female Chorus Sirena and
starting the Chorus Orfeón Santiago on November 15, 1960.
He composes and make arrangements for chorus obtaining national prizes
of compositions. His works have been edited in Sweden, Denmark, United
States and France. His book ''30 canciones Cubanas'' have been critically
accepted by specialists.
It`s worthy to highlight as prizes and distinctions: Distinction for
National Culture, Alejo Carpentier Medal, Félix Varela Order
of First Grade conferred by the Cuban State Council, Bartok Diploma
from Hungarian State, Annual Prize of Composition from UNEAC in 1995
due to his creative achievement. National Prize of Music in 2002.
He has been jury member at choral contests in Cuba, Argentina, Spain,
Hungary, Austria offering also workshops of this specialty in Mexico,
Argentina, France, Sweden, Guadalupe, Martinica and Spain.
