Digna
Guerra Ramírez. Havana City. August 6, 1945.
Chorus
director. Born in Havana, Cuba, August 6, 1945. She made her music
studies with professors Ofelia Busquet and Fé Castillo, entering
afterwards to Havana Conservatoire where she started piano specialty
with professor Esther Ferrer.
She finished superior studies in Choral Direction with piano professor
Horst Muller and sing professors Eberhardt Rebling and Willie Feldman,
in Hochschule fur Musik Hanns Eisler Center in Germany; obtaining
the highest qualifications in all specialties. As prize to her academic
results, she was bestowed with Honor Diploma with congratulations
obtaining also a scholarship to study Orchestral Direction specialty.
In 1965 she was designated as Director of Radio and Television Chorus
and in 1975 she started her responsability as Director of National
Chorus of Cuba where she is undertaking a laudable cultural and difussion
labor of the most remarkable works from the universal repertoire.
In 1976, when Superior Institute of art was founded, she started her
teaching activity in superior level as Head of staff and professor.
In this center she is currently working as Titular Professor.
In 1981, she founded chamber chorus Entrevoces, group with
which she has obtained various international prizes highlighting the
sonorous quality and refined grade of complex works interpretation
and different sonorous textures from the universal repertoire.
She is currently leading Cantorias Project form National Chorus of
Cuba, gathering thousand of children conforming a Children and a Juvenile
Chorus, obtaining twice, the First Prize at national Contests in Children
Chorus convoked by Alejandro García Caturla School of Music.
In 1996, she founded the Papal Catholic Church in Peru, the Madrigalistas
Chorus devoted to cultivate and diffuse choral music of chamber. This
project toguether with the national Chorus participated recently in
Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, under the conduction of the remarkable
musician Leo Brouwer, gaing the appraisal of the specialized press.
Prizes
1990- Prize to the Best Interpretation of Cuban Music at Chamber Music
Contest in Havana.
1997- International Contest of Masas Morales of Tolosa. Spain. First
Prize and Gold in the category of Profane Music. Second Prize and
Silver Tropheo in the category of Sacred Music. Prize of the public.
1999- International Festival of Chorus Harmonie 99 at the
German city of Lindenholzhausen. First Prize with Golden certification
in the category of Vocal Jazz. First Prize with Silver Certification
in the category of Madrigales
Second Prize with Gold Certification in the category of Mixed Chorus.
Special Prize conferred by the German government for being the chorus
having the highest punctuation.
1999- International Contest of Chorus in Marktoberdof, Germany. Third
Prize and International Prize of Excellence, First Grade.
1999- International Contest of Chorus in Maasmechelen, Belgium. First
Prize in the category of Chamber Chorus.
2000- Prize in the 4th International Fair of the Cuban Record ''CUBADISCO
2000'' in the category of Choral Music with ''O vos Omnes'' CD, produced
by Digna Guerra, under EGREM label.
