Eduardo Córdova Reyes. (Havana, 1963)

Percussionist of high academic studies and artisan by natural intuition, he is sculptor in addition. He decided once to make his own instruments because the sound coming from his drum didn`t satisfy him at all. He started then a great adventure with cedar trunks, ironworks and leathers to start shaping a dreamlike sonority world in which music and handicrafts converge and get together with no limits.

Córdova jumpstarts the artistic sphere with a singular image and sonority, in which his percussion-skilled hands, adroit on building and fashioning tumbadoras, bongóes, maracas, güiros, chekerés, traditional drums and some others coming from his own imagination, thunder in a really agile way over the leather he cut himself.

Adamant about honoring and exalting the most genuine Afro Cuban folkloric tunes, he pervades them with a renovating contemporary air, and this fact places him in an own creative line rising above the field as unique, when he appears in scene with the marvelous bunch of instruments he owns.

His particular percussion set is a multi-sonorous structure formed by two tumbadoras, a bombó, a box and a bongó, adding his famous ''siete bocas'', joining all ''batas'' in one. His hands adroitly move to blend elements of different musical complexities such as: batá with columbia or samba with batá.

The novel and experimental character of his instruments, the sonority born from them and the amazing energy fueling his performances have allowed him to share the scene with different-styled jazzists, soneros, concertists, salsa singers and rockers.

Córdova also teaches percussion and building of musical instruments, undertaking a praiseworthy labor in the children education regarding to how to play drum. He has given masterful classes and conferences in cultural institutions from diverse countries and is currently directing the Obbara Group, responsible for an attractive spectacle in which the traditional and contemporary music are agilely melted.

His performances in different events within the island such as Percuba, Cubadisco and the FIART Fairs and in diverse scenes of the world in Chile, Italy, France, Venezuela, Mexico and Spain among others, have turned more than one head due to its great color and artistic value.
