Charanga de Oro
Charanga de Oro is a group founded around the late 2003, gathering notorious Cuban musicians coming from such national and international famous groups as Buenavista Social Club, Afro Cuban All Star, Mangüaré, Estrellas Cubanas and National Symphonic Orchestra, under the dual leadership of composer, musicologist and flutist José Loyola and artistic director Jesús Hernández.
This group inserts the typical format and sonority of the Cuban Charanga into the current musical panorama. This sort of ensemble was in great deal responsible for the successful promotion and advertisement all worldwide of the major and most acclaimed Cuban rhythms, citing danzón, guaracha, cha cha chá, son, bolero and mambo, among others, during the XX century`s forties, fifties and sixties.
The Cuban charanga has its seeds on the second half of XIX century as a derivation from the classic French charanga for ballrooms, which later had the addition of new instruments, sonorities and singular styles of composition and performance.
This team is formed by 12 musicians, 3 vocalists and a technical group, regularly featuring notable guest appearances for the likes of Teresa García Caturla, Emilia Morales, Mundito González, Rolando Montero “El Muso” and musical gems as Master of Chekeré Pancho Ferry; Charanga de Oro stands up for the excellence and virtuosism of its musicians, its valuable repertoire, which boasts in original versions, the best of the rhythms conforming the so-called Gold Heritage of Cuban popular music and concurrently, is able to sport the latest salsa music together with overseas themes and all this is evinced in Goza mi Charanga CD, produced under Ahí Namá Label.
