Carlos
Puebla (1917-1989)
Composer, guitarist and singer. Being very young, he obtained self-taught
knowledge of guitar, although he tried some other jobs before completely devote
his life to art.
In 1953, he founded Los Tradicionales Conjunct and started performances
at the famous La Bodeguita del Medio Restaurant on 1962.
Later on, he made musical studies at the Escuela de Superación Profesional de la Habana (School of Professional Development
in Havana), 1959.
In his creations, he sings to the most relevant events of the Cuban
people's history, becoming a chronicler of all national occurrence
since 1959 up to his death. He used a serious and direct language,
tinged in many cases, with the most popular and criollo humor, as
a good example we can highlight the guarachas Y en eso llegó Fidel and La OEA es cosa de risa; Yankees go home; El son de la alfabetización
and the song Hasta siempre Comandante, devoted to Ernesto
Ché Guevara, composed in 1995 making of him a well-known figure
in the international scene. He also tackled in his work love and people`s daily
labor.
Prolific composer with about one thousand of works, citing boleros, sones,
guarachas. The lyrics of his songs have been translated into various
languages and his musical works have been used for Cuban cinematography in such films as Alba de Cuba, Estado de sitio and Nuestro hombre
en la Habana, among others. Together with his group, he made a lot
of TV programs and international tours around Latin American countries,
recording also LP records via EGREM Label. His works are currently part of diverse Cuban singers' repertoire.

His repertoire also includes marches, hymns, tangos, cradle songs,
sones, boleros and songs in general conforming the most varied rhythmic
and melodic music.
