Beatriz Corona Rodríguez (1962)

Composer, conductor of choirs, arranger and musical producer. Beatriz Corona
She was born on June 22, 1962 in Havana. She is one of the present composers more proliferate. Her catalogue of chorals works as well as her arrangements for voices in different formats defines her as an important composer of choral music of the present time.

She began her piano studies in the Conservatory Alejandro García Caturla of Havana and then she received classes of Choral Direction in the National School of Music from the teacher Alina Orraca, concluding her studies in the Conservatory Amadeo Roldán with the teacher Teresa Pentón.

In 1979 she participated with the Chamber choir of the National School of Art under the conduction of Alina Orraca in the VIII Festival of Musical and Scenic Arts in Vienna, Austria, where obtained the second prize in the category of Choirs.

She conducted during one year the Professional Choir of Cienfuegos and practised Choral teaching in several conservatories of Havana and Camagüey. She worked as Adviser of the Music in the National Presidency of the Pioneers Organization from Cuba. She imparted classes in the National School of Music. She has been rewarded in several composition competitions, among those that highlight: The age of Gold, National Competition of Music of the conductionof Artistic Teaching, competition of Choral composition Esteban Salas, National Competition of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). She has received in two occasions the April Prize.

In 1992 visited different cities of Sweden and in 1995 she imparted Workshops of Choral music about her work in Argentina. She worked imparting classes and workshops of Choral arrangement in Venezuela.

CD Aire Nocturno.

Her catalogue consists of about 200 chorals works of different formats: orchestral music, chamber music, religious works, and music for cinema, for the movies: Amor vertical, (vertical Love) and Sabor Latino (Latin Flavour), this last one, next to her brother Kiki Corona.

Her disk Aire Nocturno (Night Air) was nominated to Cubadisco 2002 in the categories of Recording, musical Production and Choral Music and obtained prizes in Choral music. This CD included a selection of her choral work of excellent artistic and professional quality. It interpreted the choirs of young musicians: Vocal Leo and Polyphonic Choir of Havana of great vocal quality, under the direction of the conductor of the choir: Corina Campos and Carmen Hill respectively.

Beatriz Corona gives musical character to the poetic work of José Martí, Nicolás Guillén, Mario Benedetti, Pablo Neruda, Adolfo Martí, Cesar Vallejo, Dora Alonso and Dulce María Loinaz, among others.
