José
Martí Pérez. (1853- 1895)
Major
figure in Cuban and Hispanoamerican history, letters and culture.
Relevant writer that contributed to modify Spanish language and
literature, universal thinker who analized problems of history and
Latin American political development, carring out also the organization
of last independence war of Cuba and Puerto Rico as starting point
of his wide continental emancipation project.
Supported by an ethics of service, having an explicit vocation
towards poors of the earth and approaching a love philosophy, Martí
achieved alive a fair literary recognition and, at the same time,
he put all his verbal talent and his entire life in favor of Cuba`s
cause, called by him, our America.
As pasionated dreamer, achieving exceptional racionalism as multiple
action man and ample thoughts, Martí was all the time, an
indissolubly political and revolutionary artist having profound
consciousness of his changing time, which demanded new literary
forms and thoughts to impell our America towards right interests
and identity.
Originality, autochthonous style and renovation are expressed along
his wide written work, practiced by him being aware of the major
welfare of man; defending the creation in Cuba of a free republic
holding equality, justice and dignity and the America and world`s
balance before the inminent development of the emergent United States
imperialism.
He died with his face towards the sun, as he wished, fighting colonialism
and, since then, is paradigm and guide for all Cubans.
