Jaime Saruzky. January 3, 1931
Narrator and essayist. National Prize of Literature in 2004. His journalist and research labor is outstanding due to permanent contributions to novel, cultural journalism, promotion of Cuban culture and the diffusion of its most dodged and veiled aspects.
Having a Polish father
and Bielorussian mother, immigrants in Cuba since the 20`s, Jaime Sarusky is a writer and journalist boasting a large history of success, talent and skillfulness evinced in the memorable interviews he made to such luminaries as the Brazilian Glauber Rocha and troubadour Silvio Rodríguez.
Among his major works we can highlight: La Búsqueda (The Quest) (1961), Rebelión en la octava casa (Rebellion in the Eighth House) (1967), Un hombre providencial (A Lucky Man), title that earned him the Alejo Carpentier in 2001, Los fantasmas de Omaja (The Omaja`s Ghosts) and La aventura de los suecos
en Cuba (The Adventure of Swedish in Cuba), both in 1999.
