Carilda
Oliver Labra (Matanzas, July 6, 1922)
Poetess.
One of the most popular figures of Cuban poetry written by women
since 40s and 50s decades on last century; being considered, in
addition, as a poet having great sensitivity and very outstanding
performance at Hispanoamerican literature.
She studied law at Havana University, working at her natal city,
where she also attended courses of painting, drawing and sculpture.
Around 1950, she gained National Prize of Poetry, National
Prize of Literature in 1997 and José de Vasconcelos
International Prize in 2002, among others.
On December, 2002, she joined outstanding Cuban writers to attend
the Book Fair in Guadalajara, Mexico.
She is currently living in Matanzas. Possessing a lyric work full
of erotism and sensitivity. Among her works we can highlight, Al
sur mi garganta (To the south of my throat), 1949; Memoria
de la fiebre (Memory of Fever), 1958; Versos de amor (Love
verses), 1963; La ceiba me dijo tú (Ceiba said you),
1979 and Se me ha perdido un hombre (I have lost a man) in
1993.
