Well-known as Salitas. Famous due to the cotidianity of his images.
Around the 90s, he makes an experimental study and manipulation
of images with nature leaves, highlighting Tabaco: Visions about
a leyend, where he uses naked figures with superpositions of tobacco
leaves images; another series, made with Yagruma leaves.
In 2003, he makes impressions with digital manipulations, exposed
at Fototeca de Cuba, in Cayman Islands National Gallery and in Research
Institute for the Study of Man in New York.
His works has been exposed at more than 25 art exhibits around the
main cities of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
He studied photography with his father, Osvaldo Salas and at the
age of fifteen, he made his first works for El Imparcial Journal
in New York. In August of 1957, he published his first photograph
in Life Magazine: the flag of July 26 Movement in the Liberty Statue
of New York.
In 1959, he settled in Havana City and his photographic work is
incorporated to revolutionary press means, citing Revolution journal,
Cuba magazine and Granma newspaper. In 1960, he was corresponasl
in United Nations and founder of Prensa Latina in New York office.
Also war corresponsal in Viet Nam.
He
was photographer from Press Direction from Exterior Relations Ministry,
also photographer and responsible of Public Relations at National
Institute of Tourism.
Founder member of Writers and Artists Union of Cuba (UNEAC) and
Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), honor member also of Cuban Fund
of the Photographic Image (FCIF). He possess the category of International
Artist from International Federation of Photographic Art.
Prizes
Prize at International salon of photography in Tokio. (Along six
consecutive years among 1991 and 1996)
Gaudii Medal, in 1995 at Salon of awarded in Reus, Spain.
Photographer of the Year (1972) from Tiempos Nuevos Magazine in
Russia.
