Sculptor
and Silversmiths. He studied at San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy
and dedicated later to Crafts Jewellery and sculptures in precious
metal.
Rafart`s
scuptures
made in marble and metal are disquieting and original sculptoric
shapes, zoomorphic some of them, bounded to infinite interpretations
or simbolic representations.
His craft-jewelry
pieces are also unique holding a refined technique, originality,
excellence and high aesthetic sense.
The harmonic integration of different elements in a work is a hallmark
in his creations; each of them can be in its essence, an exotic
bird, an insect, a sea snail or any natural existence that is adquiring
new dimensions and even timeless connotations, allusive sometimes
to science fiction worlds.
He is winner of diverse prizes and acknowledgements, such as: First
Prize in Crafts Jewellery in the Quatriennial of Applied Arts; First
Prize in Sculpture "The Kiosk of Silver". IV Competition
International of Jeweller's of Taxco. Guerrero. Mexico; First Prize
and Special Prize in Sculpture. X International Competition of Jeweller's
of Taxco, Guerrero. Mexico.
His
outstanding artistic labor have been awarded in Cuba with the National
Distinction for National Culture and "Alejo Carpentier"
Medal from State Council of Cuban Republic.
His works have been exhibited since 1962 in diverse solo and group
exhibitions at national and overseas salons, appearing also in remarkable
public collections at National Fine Arts Museum, Cuba; Museum from
the Vatican City and in private collections of such countries as
Argentina, Germany, Spain, EUA, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary,
Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, Poland, Puerto Rico, Italy, England and
Switzerland, among others.
Art works by this peerless creator are present in social and cultural
institutions such as Paula Church and Miramar Trade Center with
two large murals in copper.
Exquisite pieces born in his skilful hands have served as gifts
for notable world personalities, this is the case of his work "Nautilus",
well-known also as "El nacimiento del mundo" (The Birth
of the World), which was granted in 1996 to Pope Juan Pablo by the
hands of the Cuban President, Chief Commander Fidel Castro Ruz,
during his visit to the Vatican, another art work by him was granted
to the President of Popular Republic of China Jian Zeming at Meliá
Varadero, during his visit to Cuba in 2001.
Notable experts have appreciated the high quality and excellence
of this artist`s art works at the prestigious autions of Sotheby's
and Christie's Houses.
Rafart is member of the Union of Cuban Artists and Writers (UNEAC),
International Association of Plastic Artists (AIAP) and Cuban Association
of Craftsman and Artists (ACAA). He spends a considerable part of
his time on educational duties, giving seminars and workshops about
the craft-jewel art in different countries.
