On the occasion of Cubadisco 2008 International Fair it was held a press conference last Monday 5 with the attendance of doctors María Teresa Linares and Rogelio Martínez Furé, both Presidents of Honor of the event, Ciro Benemelis and Cary Diez, President and Vice-president respectively, among other personalities and institutions. Soycubano Agency from ARTEx was also present in this activity in which it was announced the program of the Fair and the space dedicated to the longest rumba of the world, finishing with a speech by Furé about Africa and its diaspora. Participants also knew firsthand that Cubadisco 2009 will be about the music and children and the musics of the South will be the guests of honor.
The Arte para Mamá Fair (Art for Mother), sponsored by the Cuban Fund of Cultural Heritage, with works by over one thousand creators and artists of the Island, is held at Pabellón Cuba in this capital. Fashion parades, sales of paintings, engravings, clothing, furniture and utilitarian ceramics constitute the offers to public. A jury made up of prestigious artists will grant awards to creators for the treatment to Cubanhood, originality and environmental approach, among other modalities. In this fourth edition celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Fund of Cultural Heritage.
Over 400 Cuban visual art expressions are showed in Canada for the first time and includes paintings, drawings, illustrations, hundreds of documents, pictures and pre- and post-Revolution posters, as well as installations, videos, films and music. Among the hundreds of artistic works the exhibition presents twenty paintings representative of the Cubanhood created by Wifredo Lam, the most universal Cuban painter and many creations made by Cuban avant-gardist maestros: Marcelo Pogolotti, Jorge Arche, Amelia Peláez and René Portocarrero among others.
