The XVI International Book Fair in Havana will be held next February 8-18. Under the slogan Leer es Crecer, this time the fair will be devoted to César López, National Prize of Literature and Eduardo Torres-Cuevas, National Prize of Social Sciences and will honor Argentina Republic as Guest Country of Honor. It will take place, like in previous years, at Morro-Cabaña Historical-Militar Fairground, the greatest Spanish fortress existing in America, built among 1763 and 1774 to become one of the most complete structure to defeat the attack of pirates and foreing invasions. The top of the castle is crowned by La Giraldilla, emblem of the capital of all Cubans.
Last edition, held on February-March, 2006, enhanced its limits and presented the space Bazar de las Artes, which gained in a sudden great acceptance and was held at Los Tres Reyes del Morro Castle. This building, which is the most famous image of our island all worldwide, is very close to La Cabaña. There, such attractive products as music CDs, cassettes and VCDs, audiovisual materials in VHS and DVD format and many other Cuban and foreign items were exhibited and sold.
Having the permanent goal of transforming this fair in a must-visited place for exhibition and commercialization in Cuba, Latinoamerica and the rest of the world, we present in this upcoming fair, another edition of El Bazar de las Artes.
Artisans coming from diverse places of the world will be together here in this party of literature and arts to write the history of this second edition, to b eheld this time at the first floor of El Morro Fortress. On the first floor will be a great book shop to be sold in national currency.
In this fortress full of history is located the Havana Bay`s Lighthouse, which began to work on July 24, 1845, adopting the name of Morro Lighthouse nowadays, with the same tower and the same optical equipment but having now a more powerful light with a reach of about 25 nautical miles, (46 kilometers). This structure still guides all those ships intending to enter the Havana Port and some others sailing in front of its coasts and it is, perhaps, the most known symbol of Cuba. To this beautiful place, soaked by history and cultural wealth we inviting all those lovers of Cuban literature interested in attending the literary and professional activities developed during the International Book Fair in Havana and in El Bazar de las Artes.
