César Portillo de la Luz, Havana, 1922.

César Portillo de la Luz talks cheerfully with Juan Blanco and Leo Brower, during the recently Cubadisco 2002' nominees presentation. Guitarist and composer. He was born in Havana City on October 31, 1922. When he was 19 years old, he started to sing accompanied by his guitar. Around the 40s, Portillo de la Luz joining remarkable figures such as José Antonio Méndez, Ñico Rojas, Rosendo Ruiz (junior), Aida Diestro and Elena Burke, among others, started a genre that, with new expressive elements and in the context of the Cuban troubadours song, established a dialogue having great realism with the public through the emotion and the syntactic structure of the Bolero, giving the name of ''feeling''.

In the Feeling, the melody abandons its normal quietness, aborting modulations and enhancing harmoniously the links of tonal and extra tonal accords with an American music influence. Around these years, 1940 to 1950, his labor became relevant within the troubadours atmosphere, performing at night clubs and famous cabarets of the capital like Sans-Souci and Pico Blanco at St. John Hotel, artistic work that he still carrying out nowadays.

His wide authorial work has enriched the patrimony of the Cuban Song with creations such as ''Contigo en la Distancia'' and ''Tú mi Delirio'', both versioned more than 100 times; others like ''Noche Cubana'', ''Sabrosón'', ''Realidad y Fantasía'' and ''Canción de un Festival'', have also achieved an ample international diffusion, being recognized as an important author-singer.

His themes has been performed by famous artists of all times, highlighting Nat King Cole, Lucho Gatica, Pedro Vargas, Fernando Fernández, Luis Mariano, Luis Miguel, Plácido Domingo, Caetano Veloso, María Bethania and Symphonic Orchestra of London, among others.

Diverse scenarios in Europe and America know very well his unforgettable compositions, appreciating his conferences and guitar classes.
