Filing is a genre belonging to Cuban song, having a noteworthy influence within the North American music. As its self name reveals, what the minstrel offers is permeated by feelings, emotions. It represented, in Rosendo Ruiz Junior's viewpoint, a strong, renovated Trova movement. Their major precursors had a poor extraction and did not know so much about musical techniques.
Some renovating tendencies from the international sonorous environment,
overtook the Cuban popular music and around the 50s, they helped to
establish a new dynasty of songwriters, precursors with a deep ''criollo''
taste that belonged to the so-called style Feeling or Filing and gave
a new dimension to the soulful intimacy in the troubadour's nature,
thanks to a new conceptualization of expressive resources and original
sense.
José Antonio Méndez, César Portillo, Martha Valdés and Angel Díaz formed the fertile quadrant
of this stage, enriched by a luminary artist of extraordinary features,
natural pedagogue and experimenter that became a joint of this cycle
with his precedents: Vicente González Rubiera (Guyún),
audacious reformer of his time.
This feeling-like atmosphere presented for the first time, the
young figure of Pablo Milanés and Silvio Rodriguez,
who directly appeared at the new born trova style.
