She
is the owner of fresh waters, a symbol of coquetry, gracefulness
and female sexuality. She stands for the fight for life.
She was born in the mouth of the river and sea. She was the first
cook the Orishas had but because of lack of attention she had to
manage by doing many things in order for her to be taken into account.
Although she is the smallest one, she can replace any Orisha, even
Obbatala. She changed her long hair with Yemayá to obtain
clothes having beautiful colors. Then, with her remaining hair,
she made herself beautiful hairstyles.
Because of her participation in the creation of the fetus in the

presides over the embryo and Obbatala is the sculptor who gives
her human shape as well as her gift of speaking (aché).
