Alfredo Sosabravo. National Plastic Arts Prize, 1997.

Alfredo Sosabravo Between Past and Present.
By Alejandro G. Alonso. Art Critic.

An artist can`t be divided into little pieces. So if we would dismember the outstanding Alfredo Sosabravo´s creation for studying, we could appreciate -and not for magic reasons- assorting elements shaping the organic structure of his creation, each piece would inmediately looked for the other one, like -as leyend tell us- the dead body´s fragments from the mistic South American heroe Inkarrí did. Talking about a dedicated and notable artistic life and carrying the hard task of underscoring a single significative period in this luminary artist`s life, who shows his creation through different means: Paintings, Drawings, Engraves and Ceramics... It´s worthy to highlight that Painting, his first love, made the flow of his treasured strength, which was sleeping at fathomless places, deep in his soul, exploded to define him soon, as one of the most original persons at national artistic sphere, wrapping and place him in time and space.

Inquiring the Printing
By Manuel López Oliva. Artist and Art Critic

Long time ago I qualified Sosabravo as major ceramist. In this occasion, I am going to start by saying that Sosabravo, our artist, can`t be only viewed in this way, but also as one of the most original artificers from the national plastic´s bidirectional expressions, that is to say, Painting and Graphic. However, talking about Graphic in his case, which is that of a creator with a restless activity in his profession, isn`t possible to divorce it too much from the rest of the artistic means; that`s why, the pictorial and ceramic facts are also implied on the engraver´s dimension, managing the project free of prejudices about all genres and techniques.

Sosabravo Ceramist
By Dra. María Elena Jubrías. Titular Professor of Havana University.

When talking about Cuban ceramic isn`t possible to obviate Sosabravo, no matters if he, as he has declared so many times, feels like a painter, no matters the renowned excellence of his pictorial or graphic work, Sosabravo is for all of us, a Cuban ceramist.

The Enchanted House
By Rufo Caballero. Art Critic.

The adjustment of Sosabravo´s glance is aimed at overflying specific details to become himself nature, not derived or analogous organic entity. What the master tried to build all these years is barely assessed as a cathedral to ilussion of happiness, joy of living as some many others did before: Matisse or among us, Raúl Martínez, Mariano Rodríguez and González Puig. Alfredo Sosabravo is completely conscious he is dealing with an untouchable illusion, almost unreachable, but definitively necessary to life and history. His attempts of happiness, his hurricane of positive energy is aware of needs even to a nationwide scale, a country´s project level, an existence teleology, since man´s existence is not only delimited by chaos and negation.
