 Raúl
was and is a painter, photographer, promoter
and in addition an excellent anonimous writer.His life and work
has been related with all highlight moments of the Cuban culture
after 1959. In this way, we can see him entering the germinal process
of the Cuban Cinema, taking part of the Casa de las Américas´
foundation and apogee, being present on the creation and development
of the Cuban Institute of Book, participating in the spreading and
extention of the photography having an artistic connotation, in
the unforgettable epoch of the Cuban poster and in the great projects
of our theater, among other events. His first personal exposition,
in 1948, took place at a vestibule of a Cuban theater and his most
recent one, at Charles Chaplin Movie.
Raúl´s
creation takes from life and art for feeding, like other outstanding
creators, he goes far  beyond
any frontier or genre. Within this wide range of vigor and devotion
we can find examples of great cultural significance like those ones
shared with Agustín Cárdenas, Raúl Corrales
and Antonia Eiriz and his memorable personal expositions The Great
Family, Homages and Us, exhibited at Cuban museums and galleries
and abroad. It is worthy to mention the Raúl Martinez´s
exhibitions organized by Wifredo Lam´s Center and the National
Museum, having his work a relevant place in this last institution
so-called Mother of other museums.
Marvelous
is the essence of this great man, beloved by everybody, with a life
not so full of pleausure but undoubtedly beautiful and worthy, he
is an artist that started his career when the so-called artistic
streams no figuratives were stronger, since then and forever, he
is involved at the progressive movement of art.
The
international repertoire offered him multiple codices and tendencies
until he found the real aesthetic satisfaction, in a process of
self-criticism and creative renovation, that is present in his wide
artistic trajectory and strong influence in the Cuban plastic arts
from these two last decades.
