In July, 2001, National Fine Arts Museum re-opened its doors to
the public after an important remodeling process, structured into
two major installations, where the historical evolution of Cuban
plastic is shown joining notable collections from Ancient, European,
American and Asian Art, in around 47 628 art works; from them, 45
000 are national patrimony and about 2000 are in stocks.
Cuban
Art building is located at Trocadero % Zulueta and Monserrate,
Centro Habana. It exclusively features national art exhibitions
through an integrative speech of different artistic manifestations:
painting, sculpture, drawing and engrave.
It is divided into four sections: Art in the Colony, Century Changes,
Modern Art and Contemporary Art . The sample allows the public to
admire the historical evolution of Cuban plastic in general rooms.
Individual spaces for remarkable artists of each period are also
present.
Collections
of Universal Art from National Fine
Arts Museum are placed at the former Asturian Center of Havana,
which is an eloquent example of eclectic architecture of Spanish
inspiration. In this majestic building, found suitable space, the
fabulous collection of Ancient Art including more than 650 pieces.
The European painting is the larger group, highlighting samples
of Italian and Flamenco Renaissance, Spanish Baroque, French paintings
of XIX and particularly, XVIII century`s British painting.
Samples of Latin American Colonial painting and North American
plastic belonging to XVIII and XIX centuries are worthy to mention;
the most representative moments of international art from the second
half of XX century plus interesting works of Asian Art, such as
beautiful Japanesse stamps.
The high qualification of its specialists makes possible different
educational activities at National Fine Arts Museum such as guided
visits in Italian and English languages, specialized visits leaded
by notable curators and didactic labor with schools and the community.
Thanks to a great remodeling process, this institution is offering
to visitors a wide spectrum of high-quality services, among them,
a collection of specialized volumes coming from Antonio Rodríguez
Morey Informative Center, located at Arte Cubano headquarters, making
it a useful place for researchers and studious of Cuban and universal
art. The entity is also commercializing reproductions, serigraphs,
posters, books, catalogs, postcards and souvenirs, all of them having
the exclusive image of the museum.
The interior yard of a Cuban Art building is surrounded by artistic
installations and sculptural works from outstanding Cuban artists,
becoming due to its architectural and cultural value an ideal place
to celebrate artistic and cultural events. This place has also an
important theater boasting each Saturday night, concerts of great
public acceptance, spectacles featuring remarkable troubadours,
dance companies and groups tackling classic music among other guests.
Surrounded by a nice colonial environment and beautiful bushes
decorating the warm sobriety of an ancient building belonging to
XVIII century, the social-administrative building is located at
the former Militia Quarters, currently named ''Antonio Rodríguez
Morey'', which also have a proper area for cultural activities.
The excellent project eases the total restoration of this museum
and the careful curacy of each collection, its high-professional
team allows the public to enjoy an exceptional patrimonial structure,
nice stay and an unforgettable cultural meeting at the amazing National
Fine Arts Museum.
