Ruperto Jay Matamoros is considered since 1945, one of the main
representers of the Cuban popular painting. He is the only survivor
of Free Study of Painting and Sculpture (1973), starting here his
fertile artistic trajectory, that´s why he has more than sixty
years of faithful and loving dedication to Painting, above all,
landscapes where is present his unquestionable love to Cuban country.
He has also worked other themes as urban and coastal landscapes,
historic themes, portrays.

After
the Triumph of the Revolution, his works were appraised with deserved
recognition in national and international expositions. Jay Matamoros
became an emblematic figure of the Cuban popular painting with an
undoubtful international projection supported by a specialized critical
appraisal.
His works are
settled in Russia, Canada, England, Bulgaria, Italy, France, United
States, Swiss, Polonia, Venezuela and other countries, also at National
Fine Arts Museum in Havana, Ignacio Agramonte Museum in Camagüey,
Revolution Palace, UNEAC, Culture Ministry, National Bank of Cuba,
ICRT, embassies and other institutions.
This nomination
pretends to support the importance the Cuban painting has reached
in our country and the international legitimation of this expression
in which practitioners are not, since long time ago, "Creators
at the Edge".
