The XIX International Book Fair will begin on February 7 to be extended then to the rest of the capital cities through March 7, offering five million books. The main venue will be the Morro-Cabaña fairgrounds and it will have Pabellón Cuba and Feria de Rancho Boyeros as subvenues. The country guest of honor is Russia and the event will be dedicated to Cuban writersReynaldo González and María del Carmen Barcia, both of them awarded National Prize in Literature and National Prize in Social Sciences during 2003, respectively. The Fair will honor the 100th birthday of writers such as Lezama Lima, Dora Alonso and Ángel Augier. As well National Prize in Literature will be presented to Ambrosio Fornet, and the 2010 National Prize in Social Science to Pedro Pablo Rodríguez; Nicolás Guillén Prize in Poetry and Alejo Carpentier Prize in Novel, Short Story and Essay will also be presented during the Fair.
The XIV edition of Cubadisco 2010 International Fair, scheduled from May 15 through 23, 2010, will be dedicated to Country Music as one of the most genuine and deeply-rooted expressions of Cuban culture, that conveys through oral tradition, from generation to generation, feelings, customs and habits; improvisers from all over the world will be the Guests of Honor. The Committee of Honor is made up of outstanding personalities from the Cuban culture, among them María Teresa Linares, Celina González, Alexis Días Pimienta, Adolfo Alfonso, Inocente Iznaga -El Jilguero de Cienfuegos- and Pepe Ramírez. During the Fair will also take place tributes to important musicians who cultivate country traditions, such as Tomasita Quiala, Pancho Amat, Miguel Ojeda, Efraín Amador and Barbarito Torres.
The National Council for Performing Arts granted the 2010 National Theater Prize to Armando Suárez del Villar, important figure and master of Cuban stage. Dean of the Performing Arts Faculty of the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), has been also awarded the 2008 National Artistic Teaching Prize. Suárez del Villar has stood out in the rescue, research and stage of the Cuban classic theater, as well as in the development of the musical and lyrical genre by directing important plays such as Baltasar, La hija de las flores, Santa Camila, Los Bufos, El becerro de oro and El Conde Alarcos, among others. His name is associated to emblematic groups Teatro Estudio, Ateneo Group and Conjunto Dramático de Cienfuegos, institutions that set standards within the theater scene of the Island.
